No. 14 University of Central Missouri Mules wrestling team had eight placers with six finalists in the UCM Roger Denker Open Sunday, Jan. 19, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center. They were led by Kaden Stanley, Ayden Dolt, Garrett Lyons, Derek Torza, JD Culp, Xerach Tungjaroenkul, Conner Johnston, and Trent Strong.
Stanley, a redshirt-sophomore from Claremore, Okla., took fourth in the open division at 141 pounds. He won two of four matches including one by a major decision of 14-5 and one by fall (2:21).
Lyons, a freshman from Pleasant Hill, Mo., took third place in the open division at 149 pounds. He won four of five matches including one by technical fall (16-1), and three by fall (1:37, 1:29, 5:59).
Dolt, a redshirt-freshman from Excelsior Springs, Mo., took runner up in the open division at 149 pounds. He won one by a decision of 10-6, one by technical fall (15-0), one by fall (2:06) before dropping the final match to Hagen Heistand of Concordia by a technical fall of 19-4.
Torza, a redshirt-sophomore from Oswego, Ill., took fifth in the open division at 149 pounds. He won four of six matches including two by fall (0:53, 5:44), one by a major decision of 17-9, and one by forfeit.
Culp, a redshirt-sophomore from Warrensburg, Mo., took runner up at 157 pounds in the open division. He won one by fall (2:55), one by a major decision of 10-2, and one by a decision of 8-6 before dropping the final match over Xerach Tungjaroenkul by a decision of 7-1.
Tungjaroenkul, a freshman from Emporia, Kan, took first place at 157 pounds. He won two by major decisions (10-2, 12-4) and one by a decision of 8-2 before winning the final match over JD Culp by a decision of 7-1.
Johnston, a redshirt-sophomore from Knob Noster., took third in the open division at 165 pounds. He won five of six matches including one by fall (6:20), two by major decision (15-5, 12-1) one by a decision of 8-2, and one by no contest.
Strong, a redshirt-junior from Maysville, Mo., took fifth in the open division at 285 pounds. He won one by a decision of 7-3, one by fall (4:48), and one by no contest.
The Mules will return to competition on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Maryville duals.
