WARRENSBURG — A burn ban is in effect for the City of Warrensburg, effective immediately.
The Warrensburg Fire Department states the ban is due to prolonged dry conditions.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Warrensburg is now classified as being in Severe Drought conditions.
The burn ban includes all recreational fires, fire pits and other open burning.
Barbecue grills are allowed to be used. The WFD encourages everyone to take extra precautions currently when grilling:
• Dispose of charcoal ash in an appropriate manner.
• Maintain control of ashes and sparks from the grill by keeping the grill lid closed.
• Discard smoking materials such as cigarettes or cigars in a metal container or stamp them out into dirt.
• Don’t dispose of smoking materials in grass, planter boxes or pots, or in other similar combustible material.
Lawnmowers, chainsaws and other power equipment should be watched for sparks from equipment.
Under the current conditions, a natural cover fire can spread rapidly.
Fall leaves and other combustible materials should be kept away from homes, garages, sheds, decks and other structures.
“We can all work together to keep Warrensburg safe,” a WFD press release states. “We will continue to monitor conditions over the coming weeks and will reevaluate when we can allow open burning again. It will take significant rainfall to improve conditions.”
