$25,000 donation boosts WMMC Foundation's fundraising campaign

The Western Missouri Medical Center Foundation announced a significant milestone in its Day of Giving campaign, thanks to a $25,000 donation from the WMMC Auxiliary.
Two members of 2nd Lt. George A. Whiteman's family place a memorial wreath at his grave during the annual wreath-laying ceremony Saturday morning, May 18 in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia. The event was hosted by the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce's Military Affairs Committee.

Annual memorial ceremony honors 2nd Lt. Whiteman

SEDALIA — Community members, elected officials, Whiteman Air Force Base representatives and family members gathered for the 36th annual Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony hosted Saturday morning, May 18 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia.

Before the movie began, kids eagerly ran across the lawn and climb up trees on Friday, May 17, on the Johnson County Courthouse lawn. The next Movie on the Lawn event will be at 8:30 p.m. June 21. Warrensburg Main Street will offer voting on its Facebook page to determine the featured film.

Our ancestors couldn’t go to the hardware store or shopping mall to buy utensils and other household essentials. Instead, they improvised with items found in nature. The dried fruit of several members of the cucumber family proved useful for many purposes, said University of Missouri Extension horticulturist David Trinklein.

WMMC President earns board certification

Darinda J. Dick, MSN, RN, FACHE, President and CEO of Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, has completed her board certification in healthcare management, earning her designation among the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
David Aery is the owner of Hook Solutions, 23964 U.S. Highway 65 in Warsaw. Arey has been manufacturing lures on the property since 1987 and sells the across the country, but mostly on the east coast.

WARSAW – A few miles south of Lincoln, across from the bowling alley in a nondescript white building, a team of workers manufactures 40,000 fishing lures a week.

Central Bank hosts Reality Check at Crest Ridge

During the 2023-24 school year, Central Bank visited multiple schools in the Warrensburg area. Most recently, the bank hosted a Reality Check at Crest Ridge High School.

Eric J. Black, 37, was arrested on April 15 for driving without a valid operator’s license and was given a verbal warning for the registration violation after a traffic stop at Holden and Culton streets. He was transported to the Warrensburg Police Department, processed and released.

John T. Campbell Jr., 48, was arrested on April 8 for driving with a revoked license after a traffic stop near South Maguire Street. He was transported to the Warrensburg Police Department, booked and released with multiple citations.

Fifteen 13-year-old to 15-year-old Warrensburg and Columbia students were in court this month, and many of them were serving as attorneys and law enforcement officers as Classical Conversations Challenge B classes participated in a mock trial.

The University of Central Missouri's Board of Governors approved the Fiscal Year 2025 operating budget during a plenary session on April 24 at the Missouri Innovation Campus in Lee’s Summit. The session also included the establishment of new degrees and certificates, as well as recognition of several students, faculty and staff.

New state legislation raises concerns across school districts

Last week, Gov. Mike Parson signed legislation to boost the minimum salary for teachers, incentivize five-day school weeks, increase support for early childhood education programs, and increase funding for small schools, among other provisions.
