4-H: Having fun and doing the most
Published 1:25 am Tuesday, October 13, 2026
What makes a community-based youth organization successful? Is it the number of events it hosts, the number of people who participate, or the number of projects it completes? While all of these things matter, success often comes down to something much simpler: people enjoying what they do and using their talents to make a difference.
In 4-H, there is no single right way to get involved, whether you are a youth member or an adult volunteer. Point of fact, there are a multitude of right ways!. Some people enjoy working with animals, building projects, or developing new skills. Others thrive when speaking in front of a crowd, organizing events, teaching others, or serving their communities. Some prefer to lead, while others are happiest working behind the scenes. Each role has value, and together, these different interests and abilities make our communities stronger.
The same principle applies far beyond 4-H. Whether involved in a school, church, nonprofit, civic organization, or neighborhood project, we all have something to contribute. The key is finding where our interests and abilities meet the needs of others. In 4-H, we call it Finding Your Spark
We work hard to connect youth with community volunteers and enable them to find their spark: discovering opportunities, building skills, and growing into leaders. 4-H Clubs throughout Johnson County are out there right now, doing just that! The future is filled with possibilities, and we are Beyond Ready to do great things!
Thank you to our volunteers and members, and if you would like to join or support us, please reach out to the MU Extension Center – Johnson County at 660-747-3193 or johnsonco@missouri.edu. Let’s grow what’s good in our communities and have fun while we do it.
