The Johnson County Historical Society held their annual membership meeting Sunday, Oct. 11, at the History Complex at 302 N Main St. in Warrensburg.
Many members of the Historical Society and the community were in attendance that day to vote on Society matters and hear Missouri Humanities guest speaker Becky Imhauser present “Love and War: A Doughboy’s Diary”. The presentation outlined Imhauser’s many historical findings related to a diary she recovered years ago, focusing on the wartime love story she found written within.
After recapping the Historical Society’s many activities and accomplishments to members in attendance, President Joyce Simmons-Dorrell passed the floor to Secretary Anne Mallinson, who led the group vote to fill the seats on the Board of Directors that were up for election this year. The resulting election decided that sitting Board members D. Roscoe James and Kimberly Pugh would both remain in their seats on the Board, continuing to help lead the Historical Society for another term. The meeting was opened with an acoustic performance by the “Schoolhouse Jammers”, and then, following tradition, refreshments and a cookie buffet were served up once the meeting was concluded in the Mary-Smiser Library and Museum next door.
