After school concluded on Thursday Oct. 22, Warrensburg High School DECA hosted its annual DECA Pickleball Tournament. In the week prior, student teams of two across all grade levels were invited to participate in this annual showdown.

“The DECA pickleball tournament is a DECA student-organized event to help raise funds for competitions that students will participate in beginning next semester.” Warrensburg DECA advisor Emily Smith said. “The DECA pickleball tournament has been going on for four years and started as a student’s idea that they were going to use for competition.”

DECA, formerly known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a student organization focused on competitive events in the realm of business. Additionally, the club partakes in multiple community service initiatives to allow students to give back to their community. The Warrensburg Chapter frequently competes at all three levels of competition: District, State, and National. Fundraisers such as the Pickleball tournament serve as an excellent way to make these events as accessible as possible for all students, regardless of cost.

Following a bracket-style elimination of eight of the initial ten teams, two duos duked it out on the court for the chance at Pickleball glory. The two finalist teams were seniors Caleb Lankford and Jackson Adkins versus juniors Ryan Wong and Travis King. After completing a best of three game format, Ryan Wong and Travis King emerged victorious.
