Fish stocking approved for Lions Lake

Posted

Warrensburg Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce that fish stocking will resume at Lions Lake following improvements to lake conditions and continued coordination with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).

Spring fish stocking at Lions Lake was delayed following an unsuccessful spring hatchery at MDC. The department also recommended postponing stocking while treatments were completed to address curly-leaf pondweed and moss growth in the lake.

With lake conditions now improved, MDC has approved stocking requests for bluegill, largemouth bass and channel catfish.

Bluegill and channel catfish are scheduled to be stocked this fall, during September and October. Largemouth bass are scheduled to be stocked in spring 2027.

“This is great news for Lions Lake and for everyone who enjoys fishing there,” said Chris Deal, Director of Warrensburg Parks & Recreation. “A lot of work has gone into improving the condition of the lake, and we appreciate the Missouri Department of Conservation working with us throughout the process. The stocking is an important step toward rebuilding and improving the fish population at Lions Lake.”

Parks & Recreation reminds anglers that the newly stocked fish will need time to grow. While stocking will begin this fall, it may take a couple of years for the new fish populations to mature and provide an improved recreational fishing experience.

“We know people are excited to see fish going back into Lions Lake, and we are too,” Deal said. “It won't happen overnight, but we're moving in the right direction and look forward to seeing the long-term benefits.”

Warrensburg Parks & Recreation will continue working with MDC to monitor lake conditions and support the long-term health of the fishery.
