High winds expected across region Wednesday

Strong winds will cross the region through the evening hours Wednesday, March 5.

A High Wind Warning went into effect for Johnson County at 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 and runs through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill forecasts winds of 25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph expected.

Along with the wind, snow is expected to arrive in the early morning hours Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

A trace to two inches is forecasted for Warrensburg. The combination of the wind and snow could create hazardous travel conditions Wednesday morning.

A low of 30 degrees Fahrenheit is expected, with the high reaching 35 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay in lower levels and avoid windows during the windstorm.

As of late Tuesday night, no school closures have been announced for districts across the area.

Whiteman Air Force Base announced Tuesday that delayed reporting is in effect for Wednesday. All personnel are required to report no earlier than noon.
