Hough appointed Johnson County Interim Western Commissioner

Posted

The Johnson County Commission has appointed Destry Hough of Holden to serve as Interim Western Commissioner following the passing of Western Commissioner Charlie Kavanaugh.

Hough previously served as Johnson County's Western Commissioner from 2005 to 2016, bringing more than a decade of experience in county government to the position. The Commission unanimously agreed that his extensive knowledge makes him exceptionally qualified to serve the county during this transition period.

The interim appointment will begin on July 1 and remain in effect while Johnson County awaits a gubernatorial appointment to fill the vacancy, which is anticipated later this year.

The Commission believes Hough's familiarity with county operations will allow for a seamless transition and continued progress on important county initiatives. During his previous tenure, he developed extensive knowledge of the county's roads and bridges, budget development and oversight, county buildings and facilities, and the policies and procedures that guide county government.

"We are grateful that Mr. Hough has agreed to once again serve the citizens of Johnson County during this difficult time," the Johnson County Commission said. "His experience and understanding of county operations will provide continuity and stability as we await the Governor's appointment to permanently fill the Western Commissioner position."
