Local veteran organizations invite the public to join in a full day of remembrance this Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026. The Matthews-Crawford American Legion Post 131 and the William A. Carleton VFW Post 2513 are joining forces to host a series of combined commemorative ceremonies across Warrensburg, honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
"Lest we forget," organizers shared in a joint statement. "We invite our entire community to stand with us as we visit these local landmarks, remember our fallen heroes, and honor the generations who secured our liberties."
The combined community ceremonies will move across town on Monday morning. Note: In the event of inclement weather, the cemetery and courthouse outdoor events may be canceled. Please follow the official event page for real-time updates.
-9:15 a.m. – Stop 1: Memorial Garden Ceremony (228 MO-13 Business) Features remarks from the VFW Commander, an opening prayer, the lowering of the flag, followed by traditional volleys and Taps.
-9:35 a.m. – Stop 2: Sunset Hill Cemetery Ceremony (604 Colbern St) Features remarks from the American Legion Commander, prayer, the lowering of the flag, volleys, and Taps.
-10 a.m. – Stop 3: Johnson County Courthouse (300 N Holden St) A joint tribute featuring remarks from the VFW Commander and American Legion Commander. Cadets from the TRIAD AFJROTC MO-20052 will read the names inscribed on the memorial, followed by volleys and Taps.
The public, local families, and media representatives are highly encouraged to attend any or all portions of these ceremonies to show their support for the local veteran community.
