Mable Stevens

Mable Stevens, 98, of Warrensburg, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, in Warrensburg.

Mable was born March 12, 1918, in Montserrat, the daughter of Bert and Veora (Visor) Goodwin.

Mable attended school in Montserrat and was a member of Victory Tabernacle Pentecostal Church.

In August of 1936, in Montserrat, she and John Stevens were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2004.

Mable is survived by four sons, Larry Stevens and wife, Virdia, Gary Stevens and wife, Merita, John Stevens, all of Warrensburg, and Harry Stevens and wife, Clara, of Lee’s Summit; two daughters, Rosetta Mayfield of Warrensburg and Ada Jackson and husband, Johnel, of Prince George, Va.; three brothers, Walter Goodwin, Alfred Goodwin and wife, Marge, of Topeka, Kan., and Bobby Goodwin and wife, Beatrice, of Northwoods, N.H.; a sister, Betty Wilson of Chicago, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, and a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edward; an infant son; a brother, Junious Goodwin; and three sisters, Cyrena Lee, Alberta Hyter, and Beulah Mae Goodwin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg, with the Rev. Morris Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph and Ralph Collins, Jamal and Bryan Stevens, Phillip and Anthony Butler, Joshua Bess and Cornelius Ashworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Harrison, Spencer Taylor, Walter Shannon, Johnson Talbert Sr. and Harold Morgan. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Victory Tabernacle Pentecostal Church and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
