New polling place announced for two Johnson County precincts

Posted

Johnson County Clerk Diane Thompson announced that the polling place for Centerview and Columbus precincts has been moved from the Johnson County Fairgrounds to the Church of Jesus Christ, Warrensburg Restoration Branch, 104 NW 361st Road in Warrensburg.

According to a news release, this change will be in effect for future elections beginning with the April 2 General Municipal Election. The release notes that voters won’t have any farther to travel, as the church is in close proximity to the fairgrounds.

“The Johnson County Fairgrounds has served the voters of the Columbus and Centerview precincts well for over 15 years,” Thompson said in the release. “However, I was notified in late January 2023 that the Fair Board voted to terminate the existing contract and replace it with a new contract that would have been a significant increase in cost to the districts within the Centerview and Columbus townships. The Church of Jesus Christ, Warrensburg Restoration Branch will provide sufficient space for voting, is handicap accessible, has adequate parking, and has the necessary amenities for the voters and election judges. This environment meets the requirements of the election process regarding security of the election process.”

The polling place change will be reflected on the new voter ID cards that were mailed out in January for the 2024-25 election cycle. Additionally, any cards issued due to a new registration or address change will reflect the change in polling location.

A voter’s polling place is identified on their voter ID card. Voters can also visit www.jococourthouse.com to verify they are registered and find their polling place.
