The Warrensburg Star-Journal has welcomed a new news reporter to its newsroom.

Hasina Shah joined the Star-Journal’s staff on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Shah is a native of San Angelo, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor's of Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in May.

Shah will cover the local government, education, health, business and entertainment stories of Warrensburg, as well as the extended region of Johnson County.

“I am so excited to join this small-but-mighty team, and can't wait to get to know the Warrensburg community,” Shah said. “Local journalism is my passion, and I can’t wait to hit the ground running at the Star-Journal.”

While at Texas, Shah gained a variety of experiences between the online, print and audio platforms.

She spent three years as the Editor in Chief of the BurntXOrange Magazine. While in the position, she revived the dormant publication and assisted in growing readership from 2,000 new users in 2023 to 13,000 new users in 2025.

Shah’s experience also included a semester as a Journalism Intern for The Austin Chronicle, a semester as a Special Projects Intern for KUT Austin, a semester as an investigative reporter for The Daily Texan, two years as the Executive Producer - Partnerships for The Drag Audio Production House, one year as a staff writer for the Afterflow Magazine and one year as a creator, Co-Host and Produce for the Little Sister, Listen Podcast.

“I am excited to have Hasina join the team,” Star-Journal editor Joe Andrews said. “Hasina has a contagious energy, and a passion to serve the community. I look forward to working with her as we continue to navigate and adapt to the shifting landscape of local journalism. Hasina will be a key part in ensuring the Star-Journal serves the Johnson County community to the best of our abilities every day online at warrensburgstarjournal.com, as well as our Tuesday and Friday print editions.”

Shah steps into a position previously held by Zach Bott. Bott departed Warrensburg in July to pursue other career opportunities.
