1927-2019
Orville D. Newell, Jr., 91, joined his beloved Savior and family in Heaven on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. He was born June 29, 1927 in Fort Scott, KS, to the late Orville D. and Florence (Large) Newell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Kearney First Baptist Church on August 10, 2019 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church.
He is survived by his daughter, Paula (Tom) O’ Brien of Elkhart, IN; granddaughter, Christina (Darrell) Tonsing of Springfield, MO; and two great-grandsons, Josiah and Micah. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary Lou Newell.
Orville grew up in Fort Scott, KS, then later settled in Kearney, MO, attending the First Baptist Church for over 35 years. He worked as a pipe-fitter welder on buildings throughout the Midwest, including the Sears Tower. An avid KC Chiefs fan, Orville was a hardworking man who loved woodworking and helping friends, including his church family and many whom he befriended while working in the Kearney Schools and at John’s Super. Orville was a caring man who loved God and shared his love of God with everyone. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.
