A flight instructor and student pilot suffered minor injuries after making an emergency landing in a cornfield north of Centerview on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
According to the Johnson County Fire Protection District, emergency personnel were dispatched to to the area on the reports of a possible plane crash at approximately 4:45 p.m. A single-engine aircraft was located 200 yards to the east of NW 501 Road near the Blackwater River.
JCPFD Joe Jennings said the plane originated from the Lee's Summit area and experienced an engine failure.
A FAA preliminary report identifies the aircraft as a Vans RV-6 owned by a Lee's Summit man. The aircraft is singe engine and includes two seats.
One person was transported to the hospital by ambulance. JCFPD stated neither occupant was seriously injured.
