UCM’s Brown helps Jamaica reach gold in World Athletics U20 Championships

Incoming Central Missouri track and field freshman Samoya Brown helped Jamaica en route to a first-place finish in the World Athletics U20 Championships women’s 4x100-meter relay on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. 

Brown ran in the first round for Jamaica alongside Thienna-Lee Terrelonge, Natrece East and Renecia Edwards. They finished their heat with a time of 43.61 seconds, advancing on to the finals. 

Brown did not participate in the finals on Sunday, August 9, where Jamaica won with a time of 42.89 seconds. The relay in the finals included Sashana Johnson, Terrelonge, East and Douglas. They won with a time of 42.89 seconds, edging Switzerland by 0.47 seconds. 

Chika Bakwunye, from Nigeria, and Hunter Scott, from New Zealand, also made an appearance in the world championships, but did not advance out of the first round of their respective events. 

Scott is also an incoming freshman to the track and field program.  Bakwunye is heading into her second season with the Jennies.
