Heat wave hits Warrensburg, rest of Missouri

Dangerous heat is making an impact in the area as the calendar turns the page to September.​

The Warrensburg area joins the bulk of Missouri in a heat advisory that is in effect until at least 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

Highs are anticipated to be in the mid to upper 90s, with heat indices reaching up to 105.

“​Prolonged heat is expected to continue through the week with highs in the mid 90s to near 100 with heat index values between 100 to 105,” the National Weather Service said. “Little relief is expected at night when lows will only fall into the mid 70s to lower 80s”​

The NWS forecasts a high of 99 on Tuesday, with the heat index value reaching 102. The same is expected for Wednesday, with a high of 98, with the heat index value reaching 103.​

Thursday, a high of 98 is expected with a heat index of 104. Friday, a high of 96 is expected with a heat index value of 101. Peak heat indices are expected to dip below triple digits by Sunday, with a high of 93 and a heat index of 97.

​The National Weather Service reminds the public to stay out of the heat for an extended period. If exposure is needed, take frequent water breaks in the shade.

​Do not leave children or pets unattended in the vehicle.
