Warrensburg High School receives believed swatting call

Posted

Warrensburg High School spent  Friday, April 10, under a soft lockdown due to a believed swatting call, the Warrensburg R-VI School District said in an email to parents.

The email states Warrensburg High School received a phone call from someone asking to speak with the Student Resource Officer. When connected, he threatened to bring a rifle into the building.

A soft lockdown was initiated, and additional officers from the Warrensburg Police Department were called to the school. The officers checked outside the school, including all cars in the parking lot.

The email states that administrators believe the call was not credible and was a swatting incident.

“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” the email said. “Our first step is always to ensure everyone is safe, followed by working with law enforcement to investigate the situation so we can share as much information as possible with families. We appreciate your patience as we work through this incident.”

A soft lockdown allows classes to continue while additional monitoring of the building is in place.

JROTC, A+ assignments, internships or worksite learning will not be held. Students who would otherwise leave the building went to the library for class during that time.

Home games and matches at the school were canceled for the day, the activities department announced in an email. Warrensburg's baseball game versus Liberty North as part of the Warrensburg/Smith-Cotton Baseball Festival was moved to Liberty Park Stadium. Warrensburg track and field's trip to Kearney for the Kearney Invitational remained on as scheduled.
