Warrensburg Main Street is back with their Summer Movie Night Series on May 15.
Main Street is kicking off the series featuring a great family friendly movie, “The Parent Trap”, at SELMO Park at 518 S Holden St, Warrensburg MO. This is a free event for all ages! Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and the whole family for a night packed with fun, laughter, and community spirit!
The May Summer Movie Night is part of a four part movie series that will take place over the course of the summer in downtown Warrensburg. Since 2022, the May movie has been planned by Sterling Elementary School students. This tradition has been a great collaboration for our community and the perfect way to end the school year and kick off summer break. The students from Mrs. Maduros and Mrs. Minor’s 5th grade classes have been working since January and have learned how to organize, market, and plan an event along with the logistics involved. Through the series of meetings the students chose the activities, food trucks, and movie that will make a night full of fun for the entire family. After their classroom voted, The Parent Trap was the fan-favorite choice for this year’s kick-off!
“The Parent Trap,” is a movie about two twin girls, Annie and Hallie, who were separated at birth after their parents divorced. When they meet at summer camp, they realize they are sisters and decide to switch places to bring their parents back together. The movie follows their funny and clever plan as they try to reunite their family. The story also explores themes of family, friendship, and second chances. This movie was released in 1998 and is rated PG. For the enjoyment of the movie attendees and to be able to continue this community event, all attendees 18 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the event.
The Summer Movie Night Series will kick off at 7 p.m. with food trucks, a bounce house obstacle course, yard games like cornhole, and family friendly activities & games, and the movie will begin at approximately 8:15 p.m. Featured food vendors for the evening include The Food Spot, The IceBurg, Granny’s Old Fashion Treats, and Little Z’s Soda Shop. Big Brothers Big Sisters and Lighthouse Recovery will also be onsite giving away limited free popcorn for attendees. This event is right in time for summer weather and the end of the school year, so it’s the perfect family activity! Warrensburg Main Street expects more than 400 attendees at the May kick-off event.
Parking will be available in nearby lots including the Visitor Parking Lot at the corner of S Holden Street and Clark Street, Faculty Parking off Clark Street, and at the Hughes Center near the football field. Outside food and drinks are permitted, and pets are welcome as long as they remain leashed throughout the event. Restrooms will be available inside the Student Union during the event, and ADA accessible ramps are available onsite.
If there is inclement weather this event will be moved indoors to the Student Union Ballroom and notices will be posted on the Warrensburg Main Street social media pages. We encourage the community to come downtown early to grab dinner at one of our many locally owned restaurants or check out the food trucks that will also be open during the event.
Additional Summer Movie Nights will take place throughout the summer on June 19, Aug. 14, and Sept. 18. Movie titles and locations for upcoming events will be announced on Warrensburg Main Street’s social media pages and website.
The Summer Movie Night Series is possible thanks to Warrensburg Main Street’s sponsors, Action Realty Co., Community National Bank, F&C Bank, The Next Door Agents, and Warrensburg R6 School District. This event was put together by Warrensburg Main Street’s promotions committee and staff, as well as Sterling Elementary’s fifth grade classes with Mrs. Maduros and Mrs. Minor’s. The promotions committee is a group of volunteers who work to project a positive, unified image to identify downtown as a gathering place. They work to market the downtown district and the community through a series of targeted activities such as special events and festivals, which highlight the local culture, art, dance, music and traditions that give each community its unique identity.
