Warrensburg man charged after domestic disturbance escalates to alleged arson

A Warrensburg man is facing numerous charges after an alleged domestic disturbance escalated to a fire destroying a building Friday, June 26, in rural Johnson County.

​According to court documents, Warren A. Jackson is charged with the felonies of second-degree domestic assault, first-degree arson, first-degree property damage and unlawful use of a weapon.  

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was first dispatched to the property in rural Johnson County for a domestic disturbance. The victim told deputies that they had confronted Jackson for driving while intoxicated around their property. An argument ensued, where Jackson allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and pushed them into the wall, causing injury.

Court documents state Jackson went on to exit his residence, entering a building that houses his business.

While on scene, deputies heard a gunshot that came from inside the business and attempted to contact Jackson via a phone call and verbal communication. He did not answer, but was seen through a window.

Deputies proceeded to deploy a drone inside the business after breaching a window and establishing communication.

Jackson went on to allegedly fire six gunshots inside the building and start a fire. Court documents state the fire destroyed the building and the drone.

Jackson went on to exit the building, where he was taken into custody.

Court documents state Jackson was visibly intoxicated and transported to  Western Missouri Medical Center before being released to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Jackson entered a not guilty plea June 29. He  is being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $50,000 bond. A bond reduction hearing is slated for Wednesday, July 1
