The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entirety of the region, including Johnson County.
The warning goes into effect at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 and runs until 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 90% chance of precipitation Saturday. Sleet is expected to begin before 7 p.m. Saturday before transitioning into freezing rain and sleet. Ice accumulation of up to .1 of an inch is possible.
The freezing rain and sleet will transition into snow possibly mixed with snow and sleet by noon Sunday. Only snow is expected after 3 p.m. The high is expected to be 31 degrees in the day Saturday before dropping to 22.
The snow and sleet could be heavy at times, with up to 4 to 6 inches expected. Precipitation will continue into Sunday night. A north wind of 18 to 23 miles per hour, with wind guests as high as 36 miles per hour are expected.
The temperature is forecasted for 25 on Sunday. The Sunday night low is expected to be 6 degrees, with a high of 16 on Monday.
