The Mt. Zion Christian Church was destroyed in a structure fire early Wednesday, Oct. 14 in northeastern Johnson County.
According to the Johnson County Fire Protection District, the fire department responded to the church in the 900 block of NE NN Highway near Sweet Springs after a passerby called in flames at approximately 4:19 a.m
Firefighters arrive to the scene to a full-engulfed fire. No injuries were reported.
According to JCFPD, the church has been operating since 1840. The current structure was built in 1896, with an addition added in 2008.
According to a social media post from the church, a prayer vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday on church grounds.
The fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office.
