Intoxicated driver injured in Johnson County accident

Nicholas C. Palecek, 63, of Sedalia suffered moderate injuries at 1:38 p.m. Friday in a Johnson County accident.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Palecek was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado south on MO 13 north of MO 13 and Business 13 south roundabout. Palecek attempted to overtake a 2024 Freightliner driven by William L. Thompson, 67, of Springfield who was driving south. A 2019 Jeep Cherokee driven north by Richard J. Fry, 42, of Holden and the Freightliner struck mirrors causing the Cherokee to strike the rear of the Freightliner then travel off the right side of the roadway and overturn.

Palecek was arrested for driving while intoxicated - drugs, careless and imprudent driving involving a crash, and no insurance. He was transported to Western Missouri medical center in Warrensburg and released for care.

Information is taken from preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved.
