MSHP reports Memorial Day statistics

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports three people died and 86 were injured over the course of the Memorial Day weekend counting period. 

The period began at 6 p.m. Friday, May 23 and ran through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 26. 

MSHP investigated 182 crashes in total. The numbers are down from the 275 traffic crashes, 161 injuries and seven fatalities that took place in 2024. 

One fatality took place in Troop A. On Saturday, May 24, a 42-year-old woman from Independence was killed when she was walking westbound along Interstate 70 near mile-marker 21.8 in Jackson County. 

She was struck by a westbound vehicle, before being hit by a second vehicle. She was pronounced dead on scene. The drivers of the two vehicles were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. 

A second fatality took place near Wentzville in Troop C on Saturday. 

The third fatality took place Monday, May 26  near Catawissa near Troop C. 

MSHP also reported 78 DWI arrests took place, down from the 128 in 2024. 

On the water, there were three boating crashes reported.
